Site of a childrens summer camp ground and home of the "Christ of the Rockies", a 33 ft statue set on a 22 ft base; located 60 mi SW of Denver along US 285.
History
Santa Maria was established in 1885 as the resort town of Cassels, a stop along the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad. In 1929, John and Mary Dower bought the resort, changed its name and transformed it into a childrens summer camp.
