Located in the Uncompahgre National Forest/Lizard Head Wilderness, near Navajo Basin and Elk Creek Basin and the Wilson Range, approx. 12 miles SW of Telluride
History
Designated by Public Law 116-9, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. Named for Charlie Fowler, who died in a 2006 avalanche while attempting to summit Genyen Peak in Tibet. Mr. Fowler was known in Southwest Colorado for building climbing walls in schools; he received the Robert and Miriam Underhill Award for outstanding mountaineering achievement from the American Alpine Club in 2004.
