Description
In Shasta-Trinity National Forest, 2.6 km (1.6 mi) SSW of Pattison Peak, 17 km (11 mi) NW of Hayfork.
History
The name Gates Mountain was formerly applied to the summit at 403823N 1232253W, in Sec 15, T3N, R7E. Application changed to Sec 11 by a decision of the Board on Geographic Names (BGN) in 2009. Named for the Gates family who homesteaded in the area in the late 1880’s and who established the Bar 717 Ranch and Trinity Camp in the 1930’s.
