Description
Highest elevation is Mount Whitney, bound on the south by Tehachapi Pass, on the north by Lassen Peak, on the northwest by Sacramento Valley, on the the southwest by San Joaquin Valley and on the east by the California-Nevada state boundary. (US-T121)
History
In Spanish the name means "snowy saw-teeth," or snowy range of mountains." The name was first applied to the Santa Lucia Range in 1542 by Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo. In 1776 Father Pedro Font placed it on the present location. (US-T121)
