Description

Located in sec 17,T26S,R37E, Mount Diablo Meridian. At the head of Freeman Canyon 4.8 km (3 mi) southwest of Morris Peak and 6.1 km (3.8 mi) southeast of Pinyon Peak. (US-T121) National Historic Landmark.

History

Named for Joseph R. Walker, a fur trapper and guide. Native Americans showed the still remote pass to Walker in 1834, and he led the first immigrant wagon train into California through this pass in 1843. The original BGN Decision card can be found in the Nevada section of the "Old Decision Cards."
