History
Establishedin 1829 by the Territory of Arkansas Legislature. Named for Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), third President of the United States from 1801 to 1809. His promotion of the Louisiana Purchas made it possible for Arkansas to eventually gain Statehood. (AR-T2/p47)
