History

Another summit, located 0.6 km (0.4mi) to the south, is reported to have been named Wrong Mountain by a surveying party circa 1910. They had mistakenly named it Rincon Peak, but having realized their error, they renamed it 'Wrong Mountain'. In 1982, the US Board on Geographic Names received and approved a proposal to change the application of the name, citing the recommendations of local National Park Service (NPS) andU.S. Forest Service (USFS)personnel that the 1910 application was incorrect. The name was relocated to the more northerly 8,056 ft peak.
