Description

A red sandstone butte about 3 miles NW of Tempe (US-T121).

History

Named in honor of Will C. Barnes (1858-1936), soldier in the Indian Wars in Arizona, recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, stockman, member of the legislatures of Arizona and New Mexico, Chief of the Division of Grazing in the U.S. Forest Service, Secretary of the U.S. Geographic Board and author of 'Arizona Place Names' (1935) (US-T121).
