Description
Heads on the S slope of Noble Mountain, about 3.5 mi NW of Alpine in Apache NF, and flows generally E into NM to the NE end of the San Francisco Mountains, the S into Gila NF, and then SW into AZ and Apache NF to the Gila River about 6 mi SW of Clifton.
History
Named in 1825 by James Ohio Pattie for the San Francisco Mountains from which it was assumed to flow. The 1874 General Surveys Map showed the stream as Francisco River (AZ-T1).
