Description
Heads in Utah, flows SSE to the Colorado River.
History
John Wesley Powell applied the name Pa-ria River to the stream and reported that is was a Ute word meaning 'water muddy'. Almon Harris Thompson had reported naming the stream 'Pahreah River'. In Piute, it means 'water, elk', apparently for the elk which flourished along the stream before 1850. Father Escalante had called the stream Rio Santa Teresa (Granger, Byrd H., Arizona's Names (X Marks the Place), p. 463).
