Description
Cinder Flat is located under Cave Rock, on Sw. coast of Amaknak I., in Unalaska Bay, 1 mi. W. of Unalaska village, Fox Is., Aleutian Is.;
History
Name probably derived from Amaknak Island. This cave was an old Aleutian burial place in (Baker, 1906, p. 95). According to R. H. Geoghegan the name means "burial place" from amaiknaq (place of impurity).
