Description
Koyukuk Mountain is located on right bank of Yukon River, 3 mi. N of Koyukuk and 19 mi. NE of Nulato, Koyukuk Low.
History
Name obtained in 1869 from the Russians by Captain C. W. Raymond, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and written "Koyukuk Sopka" by him. A. V. Zane, U.S. Navy (USN), of Lieutenant G. M. Stoney's expediton gave in 1886 the Koyukan Indian name as "Be-ne-le-rah-cher," meaning "big mountain."
