Description
Huggins Island is located between Mathews Slough and Koyukuk River, 60 mi. NW of Gold Mtn., Kokrines-Hodzana High. 7 miles long.
History
Named in 1885 by Lieutenant Allen (1887, p. 103), USA, for Captain Eli Lundy Huggins, USA, "for a long time a resident fo the Territory and a warm friend of the expedition." Allen aslo called the island "McQuesten Island" for the early Yukon River Trader, "Jack" LeRoy McQuesten.
