Description

Black Rapids Glacier is located trends NW and E to its 1950 terminus near Black Rapids of Delta River, 37 mi. S of Delta Junction, Alaska Range. 29 miles long.

History

Local name reported in 1938 by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS); at that time the glacier was receiving considerable publicity from the press, because of the speed of its movement and was nicknamed "Galloping Glacier."
