Named in 1933 byU.S. Forest Service (USFS)for Nikolai Alexandrovich Khvostof, Lieutenant under Governor Baranof, explorer of parts of the Alaskan coast, and author of several books containing authentic records of conditions observed by him in hi s explorations. See Baranof Island.
