Group of islands that include Bamdoroshni, Galankin and Whale Islands, with surrounding smaller islands, 1.5 mi S of Sitka, Alex. Arch.
History
Name apparently first applied by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), in 1883 Coast Pilot (p.142). The name was derived from Galankin Island, the largest of the group.
