History
Tlingit Indian name reported in 1809 by Ivan Vasiliev the first, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN); published by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 19), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "O(strov) Ilpyt," or "Ilpyt Island."
