Description
Chichagof Island is located extends SE from Cross Sound and Icy Strait to Peril Strait, Alex. Arch. 72 miles long.
History
Named in 1805 by Captain U. F. Lisianski, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), for Admiral Vasili Yakov Chichagov, who expolored in the Arctic regions in 1765-66. This island was previously known as "Yakobi," a name given to an island off the northwest coast of Chichagof Island. See Yakobi Island.
