Big Branch Bay is located empties into Branch Bay, 9 mi. NW of village of Port Alexander, on S coast of Baranof I., Alex. Arch.; 0.5 mile wide.

Name published by US@C&GS in 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 133); derived from "Bolshoy Rukav" meaning "big sleeve"; published in 1850 by the Russian American Company.
