History
Saginaw Creek was a local name recorded in 1948 by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Skanax̲héen is the Tlingit name for the stream and is associated with Skanáx̱ Bay, into which the stream flows, named for either a village on the eastern shore of the bay or the bay itself and translated as “noisy beach,” referring to the sounds of clams in a traditional Tlingit story.
