Description
El Capitan Island is located in El Capitan Passage, between Orr and Prince of Wales Is., Alex. Arch. 3.5 miles long.
History
Named in 1932 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) because "This is the largest island in the passage and the name is especially appropriate * * *." El Capitan is Spanish meaning "the captain."
