Description
Stop Island is located in Portage Bay, 16 mi. NW of Petersburg, on N coast of Kupreanof I., Alex. Arch.
History
So named in 1882 by Lieutenant Commander H. E. Nichols, U.S. Navy (USN), "because there is an extensive mud flat and shoal water beyond this island."
