History
Spanish name given in 1775-79 by Don Juan de la Bodega y Quadra and Francisco Antonio Maurelle as "Punta de Garcia" or "Point Garcia"; "no doubt in honor of Juan Garcia the surgeon of the vessel La Favorita of the Arteaga expedition * * *" (Wagner, 1937, p. 389).
