History
Named in 1879 by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), for George Davidson, 1825-1911, who was in charge of Pacific Coast work for U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) from 1868 to 1895; he was professor of geography at university of California from 1898 to 1911.
