History
Spanish name given on August 24, 1775, by Don Juan de la Bodega y Quadra as "Puerto y Entrada de Bucareli," meaning "Port and Entrance of Bucareli," in honor of Don Antonio Maria Bucareli y Ursua, Viceroy of Mexico. According to Wagner (1937, p. 377), Captain Vancouver called it "Puerto del Baylio Bucareli," meaning "Port of the Judge Bucareli."
