History

Eskimo name reported in 1950 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) and named for the nearby hill, to refer in meaning to the pointed part of a woman's parka . In 1966, E. S. Burch reported the Eskimo name as "Seekoosooweelak" meaning "never freezes." to refer in meaning to the pointed part of a woman's parka.
