Description
Mount Hamlet is located in Lisburne Hills, 10 mi. SE of Cape Lisburne, Arctic Slope.
History
Named in 1904 by A. J. Collier, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), for Captain Oscar Charles (O.C.) Hamlet, commander of the U.S. Revenue Marine steamer Thetis. Mount Hamlet was listed in Marcus Baker's Geographic Dictionary of Alaska (1906). The Eskimo name "Igiksukrak" means "highest mountain."
