Description

Heads at the confluence of Thunder and Storm Creeks on the N slope of the De Long Mountains and flows E, NE, and then ENE to the Arctic Ocean at a broad delta. 350 miles long.

History

Named in 1837 by British explorers P. W. Dease and Thomas Simpson for Andrew Colvile (spelled Colville on their map and succeeding maps) of the Hudson Bay Company (Simpson, Thomas, 1843, p. 130).
