Northernmost of the Neruokpuk Lakes in the Brooks Range, Franklen Mts. N of and connected with, Lake Peters, 17 mi. NW of Mount Michelson.
History
Named by E. de K. Leffingwell for Frank Charles Schrader (1860-1944), U.S. Geological Survey geologist, who accompanied W.J. Peters on a reconnassiance of northern Alaska. The lake originally was named Lake Peters by Leffingwell (1919, -. 57) who wrote, "a narrow channel which heads a few hundred yards to Lake Peters. Here the high mountains cease, and the lake lies in an open basin whose slopes rise only a few hundred feet above the water." Leffingwell's map (pl. 1), however, shows the names transposed, and it is this application that influcenced subsequent maps and local usage.
