History

Tanaina Indian name originally applied to a fall or rapid on the stream, which, according to Chief Zachar of the Lake Clark People, descriptively means "strong falls." Map usage by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 1909, however, applied the name to the stream which the Indians called "Kunthrashibuna."
