Eskimo name reported in 1902 as "Keeghik" and "Keejik" by W. H. Osgood, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA); derived from the native name for Lake Clark; published as "Keejik River" in 1903 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS).
