Serpent Tongue Glacier is located on Alaska Peninsula, in Katmai National Monument, heads on ridge, between Mount Denison and Snowy Mtn., trends NW to its 1951 terminus at head of Rainbow River, 18 mi. NE of Mount Katmai, Aleutian Range

Descriptive name given in 1923 by R. H. Sargent, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), "because of its forked outline."
