6 mi. SW of Kodiak, on NE coast of Kodiak I.

History

Descripive name given in 1867 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) as "the behavior of fog and clouds on the mountain is said to foretell the weather." This feature was called in Russian "Gora Ostraya," meaning "steep mountain," by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 16), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN) and Skotnik" meaning "cow-keeper" by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 23).
