Description
Koniuji Island is located in Whale Passage, 18 mi. NW of Kodiak, Kodiak I.
History
Transliteration of the name "Os(trov) Konuzhiy" given in 1839 or 1840 by Murashev and published in 1849 on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1425. Baker (1906 p. 378) wrote, "The name is a corruption of the Aleut name 'Kunuliuk,' meaning crested auk. Elliott spells it 'Canooskie'."
