Description
Lipsett Point is located at mouth of Afognak Bay, 1.5 mi. NE of Afognak, on S coast of Afognak I., N of Kodiak I.
History
Local name reported in 1900 by Lieutenant Commander J. F. Moser, U.S. Navy (USN), of the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) steamer Albatross. This point was called "M(ys) Lytnika" meaning "Summer Village Cape" by Sub-Lt. Mikhail Murashev, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN) in 1839 or 1840, and published by the Russian Hydrographic Depart. in 1849 on Chart 1425.
