Description
Gravina Island is located in Clarence Strait, between Revillagigedo and Prince of Wales Is., Alex. Arch. 21 miles long and 9.5 miles wide.
History
This island is the northernmost of the group named in 1792 by Don Jacinto Caamano; this name was formally applied to this island in 1793 by Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN). It was without doubt named for Federico Gravina, the prominent Spanish naval officer of the day (Wagner, 1937,p. 390).
