History
Named in 1879 by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), for the English engineer who rebuilt the Eddystone Lighthouse near Plymouth, England in 1759, after its destruction by fire in 1755; published in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 72).
