Description
Sunrise is located on N end of Kenai Peninsula, at mouth of Sixmile Creek, 7 mi. SE of Hope and 52 mi. N of Seward, Chugach Mts.
History
Mining town founded about 1895 and called Sunrise City; reported in 1898 by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) (1899, map 6). A post office was established here in 1899 but was discontinued in 1918 (Ricks, 1965, p. 62). Present-day maps indicate Sunrise as a site with three or four buildings.
