Description
Portage Glacier is located on Kenai Peninsula, trends N to Portage Lake, 4 mi. W of Whittier, Chugach Mts.
History
Local name reported in 1898 by Mendenhall (1900, p. 273), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). So called because it is on a portage route between Prince William Sound and Turnagain Arm.
