Description

Coghlan Island is located in Stephens Passage, at entrance to Auke Bay, 1.2 mi. S of Fairhaven and 11 mi. NW of Juneau, Coast Mts. 1 mile long.

History

Named in 1885 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) for Commander Joseph Bullock Coghlan (1843-19 08), who commanded the U.S.S. Adams in a survey of this area in 1883-1884 (DeArmond, 1957, p. 12).
