Description
Heather Nunatak is located in Glacier Bay National Monument, 3 mi. NE of end of Aurora Glacier and 62 mi. NW of Hoonah, St. Elias Mts.
History
Local name reported by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 1951. Probably so called for the heather or false heather, Phyllodoce glanduliflora, that grows profusely on exposed mountain slopes in SE Alaska (Sharples, 1938, p. 101).
