Description

Akusha Island is located largest of The Five Fingers, in Stephens Passage, 70 mi. NE of Sitka, Coast Mts. 0.5 mile wide.

History

Tlingit Indian name, reported to mean thumb, published in 1923 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS); so called because the island occupies the position of the thumb in The Five Fingers.
