Description

Port Frederick is located on N end of Chichagof I., from Salt Bay extends NE to Icy Strait, 4 mi. N of Hoonah, Alex. Arch. 19 miles long.

History

Named in July, 1794, by Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), "no doubt after Adolphus Frederick, Son of (King) George iii (of England)" (Wagner, 1937, p. 389). The Tlingit Indian name for this feature was reported in 1869 by Commander R. W. Meade, U.S. Navy (USN), as "Kom-tok Hon."
