Named by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) and reported in 1897 by Lieutenant Commander J. F. Moser, U.S. Navy (USN). Name misapplied on earlier maps and volumes of DAPN. Name published at this location on 1901 edition of U. S. Fish Commission bulletin.
