Description

Near the E shore of Bering Sea, between Nunivak Island and Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. 50 miles long.

History

Discovered in 1821 by Captain A K Etolin, later governor of the Russian American colonies, who named it "Cook Strait" for Captain James Cook, Royal Navy (RN). Admiral A J von Krusenstern later proposed that it be named for its discoverer.
