descriptive name, from the Russian "Kliuchevskaia," meaning "springs," applied because of numerous warm springs on its west slope according to Captain Lutke (1836, p. 318), who published the name as "Klioutchevskoi volcan," or "Kliuchef volcano." 1952 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) map.
