name applied because of the great number of crested auks which the Russians call "Kanoozhki" or "Kanooskie," and which the Aleuts call "Kunuliuk." "Kanigui Island," by Lieutenant Sarichev (1826, map 3), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
