Kayak Cape is located between Staraya and Protection Bays, on S coast of Unalaska I.; Aleutian Islands.
History
Aleut name recorded by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 26), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "M(ys) Kayakh," or "Cape Kayak." that this name may have been given because of the possible resemblance of the word to the native skin boat. to R. H. Geoghegan the Aleut word "qayaq" means "hill" and was incorectly transliterated by Baker. "Mountain Cape" by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) in 1888.
