History
Aleut name reported by Captain Lutke (1836, p. 298), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "Sigak," probably from the Aleut "sagaq," which, according to R. H. Geoghegan, means "sleep." This point was referred to by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 25), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "M(ys) Sagakh," or "Cape sagakh."
