History
Aleut name; published as Mys Akuyan, or Cape Akuyan by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 28), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN). This name may come from the Aleut words hakuya or haquyan which, according to R. H. Geoghegan, mean standing at a distance and river otters, respectively.
